About the Rafting Adventure:

The scenic 20-mile journey wanders through tall mountain canyons on Class II waters of the East Fork of the Carson River. Class II waters include small waves and obstacles requiring basic maneuvering ability. This is usually a mild river, but it is not always a float - especially in years with a lot of winter snow!

The flow of the river is dependent on snow melt. If the flow is stronger than normal, you will definitely be splashed (the water will be quite cold) and there will be times when short bursts of strenuous paddling will be necessary. Be sure you are capable of handling such activity. Based on the current snow pack, we anticipate a stronger-than-normal flow this year.

This is a long and fun day in very remote areas. The trip is up to five hours and, with transportation to and from the river and the pre-trip briefing added, plan on needing about eight hours of endurance. The rafting journey starts near Hangman's Bridge in Markleeville and ends at the "old power dam" in Gardnerville.

Rafts are loaded with 4 to 6 people plus a guide. For safety reasons, the guides have the right to rearrange people (move you from one raft to another) to balance the paddling "power." Do not bring anything on the raft that you cannot afford to have get soaking wet or lost.

To help you enjoy this outing, we suggest you be prepared for possible cool temperatures, the sun (it can be brutal in the high elevations) and cold water. Items to bring include sun screen with a high SPF, sun glasses (with safety strap), and a hat or a visor. For clothing, wear a fabric that is fast drying (nylon, polyester, or wash and wear) in the case of hot weather. If the forecast for June 7 is for cool weather, polypropylene or wool is better. Cotton is the worst fabric to wear on the river as it retains water and loses insulation when wet. Other items you might want to consider are a swim suit and something for your feet (old tennis shoes or sneakers beat sandals if the flow is strong). Feel free to bring a dry towel and other items which may be left on the bus for your use at the end of the trip.

A coupon for $10 in free INN Play Dollars (free slot play) will be given at check-in to all participants staying in the Hotel or Motor Lodge. Must be an INN Club member to use. Not a member?
