The Four Preps were fresh out of Hollywood High in the Fab 50's when their million-seller "26 Miles" (Santa Catalina) took the country by storm in 1958. This song and The Four Preps inspired others whose music became famous. Jimmy Buffet named a chapter "26 Miles Across the Sea" in his biography "A Pirate Looks at Fifty." Brian Wilson's biography "The Nearest Faraway Place" sites an appearance by The Four Preps at his high school as his inspiration for starting The Beach Boys.

Soon the group was featured in LIFE magazine and on countless Ed Sullivan and American Bandstand shows and with Hollywood High classmate Ricky Nelson on numerous episodes of "Ozzie and Harriett." In their 58th year The Four Preps are still fronted by original lead singer Bruce Belland along with Bob Duncan (formerly of The Diamonds) plus Michael Redman & Skip Taylor (from The Crew Cuts).
